A Ski Slope Proposal at Diamond Peak - Justin & Hayley | Incline Village, Lake Tahoe

Some proposals go exactly as planned. And then there are the ones where the mountain has other ideas and the result is somehow even better.

Justin reached out to me earlier this winter with a vision: propose to Hayley higher up on Diamond Peak, wide open views, Lake Tahoe spread out below in that impossible shade of deep blue. Perfect setup. Then the snowpack pulled back early and the original spot was gone.

When the Plan Changes, You Adapt

This is exactly why it helps to have a photographer who knows the terrain. We decided to move lower on the hill, found a run with a clear sightline over the lake and enough quiet to make the moment feel private, even on a ski mountain. Sometimes the backup plan wins.

On Skis, All the Way Down

After the proposal we did a short portrait session right at the spot and then lower on the mountain, skis on, Tahoe behind them. Relaxed, natural, completely them. Not a bad way to celebrate.

Why Diamond Peak

Smaller and less crowded than Northstar or Heavenly, Diamond Peak in Incline Village is one of the best-kept secrets for a Lake Tahoe proposal. The lake-facing runs offer unobstructed views of the Sierra Nevada, and the relaxed atmosphere gives you the room to find a quiet moment. It's also just a genuinely beautiful place to photograph.

After the Vows, Hit the Slopes ,A Diamond Peak Wedding Day After

Some couples celebrate with a honeymoon suite and room service. This couple had other plans. The morning after their Incline Village wedding, they laced up their boots, clipped into their skis, and pointed their tips downhill at Diamond Peak — fresh tracks, champagne legs, and all.

The timing could not have been more perfect. A late season storm had rolled through the Sierra the night before the wedding, dropping nearly two feet of fresh snow on the mountains above Lake Tahoe. By morning, the skies had cleared to that brilliant, cloudless blue that skiers dream about all season. Diamond Peak was blanketed in untouched powder, the lake shimmering below in full view from every run — one of the most spectacular ski backdrops in the world.

Still wearing the glow of the night before, the two of them carved through the snow like they had nowhere else to be — because for one perfect morning, they didn't. They laughed the entire way down Crystal Ridge. . What I can tell you is that photographing a bride and groom on the mountain the day after their wedding, with Diamond Peak all to themselves and Lake Tahoe spread out below — that's a morning I won't forget.

If you're planning a Lake Tahoe or Incline Village wedding and want to build in a mountain adventure the next day, Diamond Peak is as good as it gets, intimate, uncrowded, and with views that remind you exactly why you chose Tahoe in the first place. And if you want someone there to capture all of it, I'd love to be your photographer.

A Winter Engagement Session in Incline Village, Lake Tahoe

Katherine, Wes, and I had been waiting months for the right day. We rescheduled twice, watched the forecasts obsessively, and then one morning Incline Village woke up covered in fresh snow and soft light and it was absolutely worth the wait.

Katherine actually came to me through her sister, whose wedding I had the privilege of photographing at The Elm Estate in Reno a couple of years back. There is something special about photographing a family across different chapters of their lives, and I don't take that trust lightly.

We spent the session wandering through the snow, the kind of cold that turns your cheeks red and makes you pull the person next to you a little closer. They came dressed perfectly for it, warm layers, cozy knits, the kind of outfits that look like they were made for a Tahoe winter. Their dog had absolutely no complaints either, bounding through the snow like he'd been waiting all year for this.

What makes a winter engagement session at Lake Tahoe so special is the light. Even on a snowy day, the light here is soft and even, wrapping everything in a calm, cinematic glow that you simply can't manufacture in a studio. Add falling snow and two people genuinely in love, and the camera almost does the work itself.

If you're thinking about an engagement session in Tahoe, winter is seriously underrated. No crowds, no harsh summer sun, just the mountains, the snow, and the two of you.

A Lake Tahoe Proposal on the Wild Goose II

As the Wild Goose II made its way across the water toward Garwood's, the light was perfect soft, warm, and flattering in the way that only Tahoe can deliver.

There are proposals, and then there are moments that feel like they were written just for you. For this couple, that moment happened on the open water of Lake Tahoe aboard the historic Wild Goose II, under blue skies, soft cloud filtered light, and the kind of breeze that makes the Sierra Nevada feel like it was put there just for days like this.

It started on the east shore, where the water is impossibly clear and the mountains rise straight up from the lake. As the Wild Goose II made its way across the water toward Garwood's, the light was perfect soft, warm, and flattering in the way that only Tahoe can deliver. The boat moved steadily, the couple completely unaware of what was waiting for them.

As they arrived, the first surprise was already on the shore, family, gathered and ready, there to witness the proposal and celebrate with the happy couple. Tears, laughter, and pure joy followed.

But the surprises weren't over. Upstairs at Garwood's, dozens of friends were waiting and when the newly engaged couple walked through the door, the room erupted. The look on her face said everything.

Lake Tahoe has a way of making moments feel bigger than life. Add a stunning historic boat, flawless light, and the people you love most and you get something truly unforgettable. It was an honor to be there to capture every second of it.
